Woman Punched In Face And Assaulted With Knife
Charges of aggravated domestic assault were placed against a Lawrenceburg man last week after a woman reported being assaulted with a knife inside her Old Florence Road home.
Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department were summoned to the home just before midnight Thursday. They arrived to find that the female victim had sustained a black eye and appeared to have several shallow cuts around her neck.
The victim reported that she and Shannon Kent Atwell, age 47, had become engaged in a verbal altercation during which he struck her in the eye with a closed fist. She said she told Atwell that she was going to call a relative and he began to hold a knife to her throat.
The officer reports that the cuts around her neck, “Appeared to have been made by a knife as it was dragged across, breaking the skin similar to a scratch.”
When officers confronted Atwell he allegedly denied having hit the victim or holding a knife to her throat. He said that she had told him, “She was going to injure herself and tell police that he did it.”
The reporting officer noted, however, “The bruising around (victim’s) eye appeared to be too severe to be self-inflicted.”
Atwell was incarcerated at the Lawrence County Detention Center on a charge of aggravated domestic assault. He was scheduled an initial court date of January 12, 2015.
