Couple Bilked Out Of Money After Applying For Online Loans
A local couple was bilked out of a considerable amount of cash last weekend after applying for online loans.
The victims filed a complaint with the Lawrenceburg Police Department, indicating that they had recently applied for several online “pay day” type loans. Shortly afterwards, they said they received a call from a man who pointed out an error on an application.
He told them that they had listed their monthly income as $20,000 instead of $2,000. He informed the couple that, “They were going to have to pay $1,762 to the law office of Kamila D. Harris in Sacremento, California to keep from being prosecuted,” for giving false information.
The man instructed the couple to obtain a Money Pak pre-paid debit card and load it with $200. He then had them give him all of the account information.
The couple told officers that once they had done as instructed they became suspicious and requested to file a police report. Officers report that they checked the balance on the account and that the entire $200 was gone.
Investigation into the crime is currently on-going.
