Animal Cruelty Charge Issued To Resident Who Abandoned Dog
Charges of animal cruelty were issued last week against a woman who moved to a different residence, leaving her dog behind to fend for itself.
A property owner reported the matter to deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, indicating that the dog had been left at her rental property on Sunnybrook Creek Road about a month prior. She told deputies that the dog had been roaming from house to house and that she had recently begun to feed it in order to keep it out of her garbage.
Deputies made contact with the dog’s owner. She said that she had been unable to take the dog with her when she moved, but that she “thought the neighbor would take care of it.” She said that a neighbor had once made a comment about taking the dog, but that she had been unsure whether he had actually been caring for it.
The owner, Lendy Nicole Rochelle, age 24, was issued a citation, charging her with the crime of animal cruelty. She is required to answer the charge in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on February 3, 2015.
