4-H Understands The Season of Giving
By: Paul Kelly
4-H members across Lawrence County recently stepped up to the plate with community service. During the month of November young people collected donations in support of Abigail’s Plan. The money was put into plastic bats in each classroom. The 4-H members then filled the bats with coins and cash.
4-H is proud to help Abigail's Plan meet its goal of building a Miracle League rubberized baseball field, right here in Lawrence County. The Miracle League is a baseball League made up of players with disabilities. A Miracle Field will help players who have difficulties walking or running.
It will especially help players who use wheelchairs, walkers, or crutches. To see a 3 minute video explaining Abigail's Plan, please visit www.abigailsplan.org and click the video link on the home page.
There is still time for you to give to Abigail’s Plan during the Season of Giving.
Simply drop off your donation at First Farmers and Merchants Bank at 1501 North Locust Avenue, Lawrenceburg. Stacey Shedd, Sherry West and their very helpful staff assisted Paul Kelly and Tracy Hagan when the 4-H donations were dropped off.
Abigail’s Plan recognized Ms. Marston’s third period class at Lawrenceburg Public as the class to raise the most donations in this fundraising drive.
Her class collected almost $250. Each class member received a pink Abigail’s Plan dog tag as a symbol of appreciation for their community service. County-wide, 4-H members brought in over $1900.
This service project is one of many completed year-round through in-school 4-H club meetings. Abigail Kidd is a recent 4-H Alumni who has been very active with in-school contests and service projects alike.
Leadership, citizenship and service learning are key parts of 4-H. Other service project opportunities include can food drives, visiting nursing homes and mentoring other young people in the community.
