Mom pursues man who snatched cash from her car
Lawrenceburg Now
A Lawrenceburg mother stayed on the phone with emergency officials late last week after a man snatched cash from inside of her vehicle, then fled.
Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department spoke with the thirty-four year old victim who reported that she had been inside of her vehicle with her son in the parking lot of Dollar General, located at 902 North Military Avenue. She told officers that a man she knew reached inside of her vehicle and snatched the $91 she had lying on the passenger seat. Once he had the cash in-hand, she said he fled.
The victim said that she was “shocked” by the action because she had known the man and “he comes from a good family.”
The victim gave pursuit, following the man while speaking with 911 dispatchers. She reported that he had been driving recklessly and at excessive speeds and that she “had to back off” because she had her son in the car and did not wish to endanger him. She was able to follow the man to a market in Loretto.
A deputy who had been dispatched to intervene was able to conduct a stop on the car. He reported that he searched the man, but that he was unable to locate any cash on his person or inside the vehicle. He noted, however, that the man “could have easily stuffed $91 anywhere in his vehicle.” He noted that the man was “rude” and displayed a “defensive” attitude.
At the time reports were filed no charges had been issued in connection with the case. Investigation is currently on-going.
