The Ethridge police department are conducting the "Safe Driving Pays Off" campaign where they are rewarding safe driving this holiday season following the speed limit change from 55 mph to 45 mph in the Ethridge, and Lawrenceburg City Limits to the Northern part of Highway 43.

Ethridge police officers are stopping drivers that they observe traveling the exact posted speed limit where police then are giving motorist gift cards as a reward for obeying the law.

During this campaign officers will still be patrolling the area for anyone who may be violating the posted 45 mph speed limit where motorists caught speeding through the Ethridge City Limits could receive up to a $200 fine.

Cheif of the Ethridge police department, Vance Jack, spoke on the speed limit change as well as their decision to reward drivers by saying, "With the number of traffic crashes we've experienced in recent years and the growing number of vehicles on the highway, it makes sense to slow folks down to a safer speed through town. We really wanted to do something that stood out to not only promote the new change in speed limit, but to do something to spread a little bit of the Christmas cheer to those traveling through our community."
