Investigation into identity theft is underway

Lawrenceburg Now

A Lawrenceburg woman reported to authorities last week that someone had used her identity in an attempt to obtain credit cards and purchase a cell phone.

The victim, age seventy-five, filed the complaint with officers of the Lawrenceburg Police Department on Tuesday. She indicated that she had first been alerted to the matter in November when she received notification regarding a credit card. She told officers that the application had been submitted online, but that she had not been the one who submitted it.

Shortly afterwards, the victim said she was notified that someone had used her identity at the Verizon store in Pulaski, attempting to purchase a cell phone. When she informed Verizon officials that she was not the one attempting to make the purchase, they advised her to file a police report.

At the time reports were filed, officers noted that the victim had not incurred any financial loss. They were continuing to look into the matter.
