Taylor pleads guilty to misdemeanor charges

Former Sheriff Kenny Taylor appeared in court Monday, pleading guilty to two misdemeanor offenses.

Taylor, who served as sheriff of Lawrence County from 2006 until 2010, was arrested in March after sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to investigate a report of an unwanted person armed with a gun at a home on Grassy Branch Road.

Information received indicated that the matter stemmed from a domestic altercation involving Taylor, his wife, and a third party. As a result of the call Taylor was charged with aggravated burglary and two counts of aggravated assault, and incarcerated under a $30,000 bond.

In court Monday, Taylor entered guilty pleas to the misdemeanor charges of criminal trespassing and simple assault. Under the plea bargain agreement he is to serve two years on probation and surrender his firearms during that probation period.
