Possible arson under investigation
Lawrenceburg Now
Authorities are investigating a fire at a rental property that occurred last week, which they believe may be a case of arson.
According to reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, deputies spoke with a witness at around 10:45 Wednesday evening. He told deputies that he had stepped outside of his Turnpike home and noticed “a flashlight moving around” inside the house next door. He said he went inside to put on warmer clothing and when he stepped outside again he could see a small flame inside the residence.
The witness said he went to Henryville Fire Department to start the trucks and notified Lawrence Central Dispatch of the situation.
Deputies spoke with the property owner about the matter. He indicated that he had notified his tenant that she needed to move out the following day. Shortly afterwards, he said he was notified that the house had caught fire. The house was valued at $40,000.
At the time reports were filed investigation into the matter was continuing through the sheriff’s department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone who has information about the fire should contact the department at 931-762-3626, or contact the investigative division directly at 931-762-1608.
