Firefighters Rescue Elderly Resident From Burning Home
An elderly Lawrenceburg resident was airlifted to a Nashville hospital Wednesday after she was rescued from her burning home by firefighters.
Members of the Lawrenceburg Fire Department were dispatched to 303 West Taylor Street at around 110:30 a.m. When they arrived they learned that an elderly resident had become trapped inside her second floor apartment.
Firefighters erected ground ladders and were able to rescue the victim from her balcony. She was transported by members of the Lawrence County Ambulance Service to Southern Tennessee Regional Medical Center. She was later flown by Air Evac Lifeteam to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for additional medical attention.
Firefighters were able to quickly bring the blaze under control. Fire Investigator Shayne Adams reported that an investigation will be conducted when the victim's condition is improved, but that the blaze appeared to be accidental in nature.
Adams said that during the rescue one of the firefighters sustained a minor injury to his leg. He received treatment from ambulance service personnel at the scene.
