Officers respond to stabbing incident
Lawrenceburg Now
Police officers responded to the scene of a stabbing incident Wednesday afternoon to find a man with a knife protruding from his abdomen.
Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department responded to a Geri Street home at 6:40 p.m. When they knocked on the door, they report spotting a man sitting on the couch watching television. The reporting officer pointed out that, “At first I thought I was at the wrong apartment due to his calm demeanor.”
Officers asked whether the man knew anything about a stabbing and the twenty-eight year old victim told them that he was the victim. Officers approached and saw that there was a knife in his lower right abdomen area, and there was “considerable bleeding.”
The man told officers that he had been asleep on the couch and awakened to find a man standing in his kitchen. He told them that “the next thing he knew he was stabled.” He said that after he saw the man he fell asleep. When he awakened he saw that there was a knife in his stomach.
He said that he had tried to remove it, but was unable to do so. The victim told officers that he “never saw the man stab him.” Reports indicate that he was unable to give a description of his attacker. The victim was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville to undergo surgery.
When a relative arrived at the home, she told officers that the victim had both legs amputated and had been in a nursing home until late October. A caregiver who had left shortly before the incident occurred, told officers that he had been watching TV when she left and appeared to be fine, but that he had spoken of harming himself in the past.
Officers report that they were unable to find any evidence inside the apartment to suggest that an attack had taken place. They indicated that “at the time of the report is unclear if a crime had occurred or whether (victim) had inflicted the injury himself.”
The case currently remains under investigation.
