South Lawrence Economic Development Association Welcomes New Wal-Mart To Town

At the December meeting of the South Lawrence Economic Development Association, members welcomed new Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market Manager Darnell James to the community.

Mr. James informed the group that the new store will officially open on December 17th and will employ around 40 people and will have 13,000 items. The store will stock fresh produce, meats, deli meats, frozen foods and have a bakery.

The Market will carry an assortment of health and beauty products, along with pet products and a small selection on general merchandise. The store will also feature a pharmacy and gas pumps which will be on average a cent-to-two cents cheaper than competitors.

James said that around 85% of the employees hired so far are from the Loretto community, which will have a direct impact on the local economy. Local officials including Loretto Mayor Jesse Turner, Alderman Steve McMasters and County Commissioner Chris Jackson said they look forward to the positive impact the new store will have on the community.
