Martin Methodist kicks off the holidays with a Christmas play
Martin Methodist College’s (MMC) Dramatic Arts Program will present a children’s stage adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic story “A Christmas Carol.”
English Professor Dr. Kayla Wiggins adapted the story to the stage and serves as the director. “When Charles Dickens wrote ‘A Christmas Carol,’ he kicked off a vogue for Christmas ghost stories and produced the best-loved and most-adapted Christmas novel of all time,” said Wiggins. “I have been a lifelong fan of Dickens’ tale, and I’ve read it every Christmas for over 30 years. I wanted to present a version of the story that would speak to modern children but still interest adults and keep the flavor of Dickens’ wonderful writing. I also wanted everyone to have fun, and I think we’ve achieved that.”
The cast and crew comprise a group of MMC students that features both new and returning faces to the drama department. The cast features Robert Austell as Ebenezer Scrooge, and includes Sydney Gregory, Candace Henshaw, Skylar Lovvo, Bryce McMillan, Corey Nave, Jessica Sudduth, Maggie Walker, Dana White, Savannah Wilbanks, Lydia Wossum-Fisher, and Kyla Young. Annslee Swann serves as the stage manager, and Chris Allen serves as the student director.
The production will be held on December 10 at 6:30 p.m. and December 11 at 12:30 p.m. in the Martin Hall Auditorium. Admission is free, and the community is encouraged to attend.
