Pedestrian Arrested For Stealing TV From Business
A man who fled on foot from a Lawrenceburg business without having paid for a television set early Saturday, was incarcerated at the local jail.
The incident occurred shortly after 3:00 a.m. at Walmart, 2130 North Locust Avenue. A Lawrenceburg Police officer conducting foot patrol in the parking lot reports hearing a ruckus at the front of the store.
When he approached employees told him that a man had run out of the front of the store carrying a large TV, for which he had not paid, then fled across the parking lot on foot.
The officer reports that he saw the man run behind the store building. He followed and saw the man run from behind a dumpster, heading south toward some nearby apartments. The officer gave chase.
He reports that he chased the man into some bushes and was able to capture him. He said he activated his taser and warned the man that he would be tased, should he continue to run. At that point, he reports that the man laid down on the ground.
Officers located the 32” Samsung TV where it had been stashed behind the dumpster. It was valued at $198.00.
Justin Daniel Smith, a twenty-six year old resident of 829 Mahr Avenue, was arrested on charges of theft of property and evading arrest and transported for incarceration at the Lawrence County Detention Center. He was scheduled an initial appearance in general sessions court on February 5, 2015.
