Leoma man charged with illegally possessing firearm
Lawrenceburg Now
A Leoma man was arrested by police officers early Monday morning after he was found to be in illegal possession of a firearm.
Alton Derrick Curtis, age 30, of 598 Revilo Road, was arrested by Lawrenceburg Police officers just before 12:30 a.m.
Officers had been dispatched to investigate a suspicious vehicle that had been traveling back and forth along Seventh Street. When they made contact they found that the driver, Curtis, had no valid driver’s license. His license had previously been suspended for failure to appear in court. Curtis was taken into custody and when officers asked whether there was anything illegal inside his vehicle, he admitted that he had a handgun.
Officers searched the vehicle and report seizing a loaded H&R .22 handgun along with a box of ammunition and a magazine for a 9mm firearm.
Curtis was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center without incident where he was booked under charges of driving on a suspended license and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. His initial appearance in General Sessions Court has been scheduled on January 5, 2017.
