Animal Cruelty Investigation Resolved
Lawrenceburg Now
Law enforcement officers dispatched Friday to investigate an instance of animal cruelty were able to resolve the matter in a short amount of time.
A concerned resident requested that a deputy meet her at a property on Rabbit Trail Road at around 1:00 p.m. She said that some neighbors had moved and after the home had been vacant for several days, she began to hear a dog “howling and crying” during the evening hours.
She said that she had noticed about one week prior that there was a dog pen situated at the edge of a field with a dog inside. She told the deputy that the dog had no shelter and that temperatures had been very cold for at least two nights. Also, the dog had no water. She said she did see some food, but that it was “just thrown on the ground.”
The complainant was able to obtain a doghouse and set up a warm, dry shelter. She said that for the past week she had been stopping by to feed and water the dog, and that it appeared that no one was caring for him.
The deputy was able to obtain a current address for the former tenant. She told the deputy that the dog belonged to her daughter, who was supposed to be caring for it. She said she had gone to feed the dog herself a couple of times, “but had not been recently.” The deputy told the woman that the dog would need to be moved to a safe area and that he would be checking back to find out where it had been placed.
The deputy noted that she spoke with another family member by phone. She was informed that the dog had been moved to an Iron City property where it would be well taken care of.
