Handicapped woman is assaulted after knocking on door
Lawrenceburg Now
Police reports show that a disabled Murfreesboro resident was beaten with a stick after she knocked on a door at a Gallaher Boulevard home Sunday.
The victim, age 59, spoke with Lawrenceburg Police officers at around 2:45 p.m. She said that she had been sitting in the passenger seat of a friend’s car, in front of that friend’s home, when she saw a child throw a stick of wood, hitting the car. She told officers that he immediately fled inside of 115 Gallaher Boulevard.
The victim, who suffers from multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease, reported that she went to the front door to speak with the boy’s mother. Before she had time to knock, she said that she heard the boy telling his mother that he was in trouble. She said that the mother then came running out the door wielding a big stick, striking her and yelling at her to get off of her property.
She told officers that she was struck repeatedly in the head, arm and hip. The reporting officer noted that she had sustained several knots, including a large one on her head, and likely a broken arm.
The victim was transported by ambulance to Southern Tennessee Regional Healthcare Lawrenceburg for medical attention.
Officers spoke with the suspect, Mary Alice Conner, age 58, who told them that “she hit the victim due to her yelling at her child,” and said that “she did not want anyone yelling at her child.”
Conner was placed under arrest and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where she was booked under charges of aggravated assault. Bond was set at $3,000.
Conner has been scheduled an initial appearance in General Sessions Court on January 6, 2017.
