Chase leads to several charges against Lawrenceburg man
Lawrenceburg Now
Several charges were issued against a local man last week after he fled from police officers who were called to investigate a domestic altercation at a Lawrenceburg market.
Reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department show that the incident occurred just before midnight Saturday on Nixon Avenue.
Officers were answering a call for assistance by sheriff’s deputies regarding a domestic altercation inside of Sugar ‘N’ Spice Market on East Gaines Street. While they were en route, they learned that the male involved in the altercation had left in a white Chevrolet truck heading northbound on First Avenue.
Officers caught up with the driver at the First Avenue/First Street intersection and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. They report that the driver pulled over twice as if he were going to stop, then took off before coming to a complete stop.
He turned onto Nixon Avenue where officers report he pulled to the left side of the roadway. Again, they report that before he came to a complete stop, he accelerated. They report that he did this again near 406 Nixon Avenue.
There, he reportedly ran up on the sidewalk, then drove between two homes. Officers report that the driver lost control of his vehicle, ran through the back yard, through a fence, and into an outbuilding. The driver then exited the truck and began to flee on foot.
Officers report that they pursued the man, catching him on First Avenue near the flood control tunnel. Once they had him, they report that he “continued to resist arrest” until he was handcuffed.
The man, identified as twenty-five year old Daniel Lee Byrd of 50 Swimming Hole Road, told officers that he had injured his foot when he jumped into the drainage ditch and requested medical attention. Members of the Emergency Medical Service were called to the scene and rendered medical attention.
Byrd was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was incarcerated under a bond of $68,000. He was charged with driving on a revoked license, resisting arrest, failure to provide proof of insurance, vandalism over $1,000, aggravated reckless endangerment, evading arrest, and evading arrest in a motor vehicle. He is scheduled to answer the charges in General Sessions Court on December 19, 2017.
