Loretto Board Awards Bid For Construction Of Swimming Pool Complex

Groundbreaking ceremony set for December 1

Members of the Loretto Board of Aldermen voted Tuesday night to award the bid for construction of the city’s planned swimming pool complex.

Mayor Jesse Turner said that bids were opened the previous week and that the low bid of $970,000 was submitted by Brad Slater Construction. Board members voted unanimously to accept the bid.

The project is being funded by both the City of Loretto and the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. It is the first in a series of projects planned for the city park under the city’s ten-year park improvement plan. In addition to the pool itself, the complex will feature a large bathhouse with women’s and men’s locker rooms along with office space to house the city’s Parks and Recreation Department.

The pool will include a climbing wall and a splash pad for youngsters. It will be outfitted with high-efficiency pumps and filters and a high-efficiency water heating system that should allow the facility to remain open from around April to October.

A ground-breaking ceremony will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1 at the pool site inside Loretto City Park.
