Grandson Arrested In Theft Case Also Garners Drug Charges
Lawrenceburg Now
After taking a police report regarding stolen jewelry Tuesday, deputies arrested the victim’s grandson who, at the time, was allegedly in possession of illegal drugs.
The eighty-nine year old victim requested that Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies be dispatched to her home around 6:30 p.m. after she discovered that a small red jewelry box containing six gold rings had been stolen. She told deputies that her grandson had visited and gone into the bathroom where the jewelry box had been kept. She said that the rings had a value of approximately $500. She stated that her grandson was the only person who could have committed the crime.
Later that day, reports show that deputies were dispatched to the home for a second time, this time on an “unwanted subject” call. They report that when they arrived the grandson, twenty-seven year old Zachary Clay Flippo, was standing outside the residence. He told deputies that he was at the home because “his girlfriend had kicked him out,” and “he was trying to find a cigarette to smoke.”
Deputies report noticing a plastic bag in his pants pocket which they discovered contained white crystal rocks that appeared to be methamphetamine. Deputies also found that he had a small red jewelry box in his pocket that contained six gold rings. He told them that the rings belonged to his grandmother.
The jewelry was returned to the victim and Flippo was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was booked on charges of theft over $500 and possession of Schedule II narcotics for the purpose of resale.
