Sheriff’s Department Reports Charges In Recent Crimes
Lawrenceburg Now
Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department detectives report that charges have been issued in connection with a number of recent burglaries and thefts reported in the southern portion of the county.
A press release issued through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) Thursday shows that the indictments came about as the result of investigations that began in August and September.
Detectives were conducting investigations into several home burglaries that had occurred in the Highway 101 (Lexington Highway) area, when they were able to identify two suspects. They report that they were able to recover thousands of dollars’ worth of stolen property from Lexington, Alabama residents Kendra Dawn Butler, 37, and Russell Oneal Sinyard, age 43, who reside at 251 County Road 482. In the press release, detectives state that they “Were able to gather evidence linking them, not just to the possession, to the actual act of burglarizing the homes.”
Detectives obtained arrest warrants and took Butler into custody on October 12. Sinyard is currently incarcerated in Lauderdale County, Alabama, and will be returned to Lawrence County in the near future. Evidence in the cases was presented to a Lawrence County Grand Jury and that panel opted to return indictments against both. In addition, indictments were issued against Butler in connection with similar offenses that occurred in the Five Points community during October of 2014.
Detectives report that they were able to identify Christopher Thomas Newton, age 28, of 99 Lou Johns Road, Loretto, as a suspect in connection with the theft of a number of trailers in the south end of the county. Newton was arrested on six counts of theft over $1,000 and one count of vandalism and incarcerated at the Lawrence County Detention Center. The investigation also revealed evidence connecting Newton to trailer thefts in northern Lauderdale County in Alabama. He will face additional charges in that jurisdiction. He is currently held locally under a $122,000 bond.
Also, charges resulted when detectives opened an investigation regarding jewelry that was reported stolen from a Napier Road residence. They report that, “The investigation developed a suspect and a location of the stolen jewelry.” They said that a search warrant was executed at Gold and Silver Coin at 219 East Gaines Street in Lawrenceburg, but that owner Nathan Gerard Thomas, “Denied buying the jewelry.”
Detectives indicate, “The investigation led investigators to gather probable cause the rings were in the business and the execution of the search warrant. Evidence gathered during the search resulted in (Thomas) being arrested…” Thomas was arrested on charges that include tampering with evidence/fabricating evidence, filing a false police report, and theft over $500. He was processed on the charges and released under a bond of $75,000.
