Woman awakens to find three armed intruders inside her home
Lawrenceburg Now
Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies began to scour the scene last weekend after an Ethridge woman was awakened by three armed intruders inside her Oak Road home.
The fifty-five year old victim told deputies that she had been asleep at around 4:00 Sunday morning when she was awakened by the shaking of her bed. She said she found that a male wearing a bandana on his face was searching between her mattress and box springs while she slept. She said when she raised up the man told her to be quiet, get out of bed, and open the safe in her bedroom.
The victim said she informed the man that she did not know the combination to the safe. She said a second man who had been crouched down at the end of her bed, apparently searching underneath it, stood up at that point. She said she could tell that he had a pistol in his hand and that his face was also covered with a bandana. She said that while he did point the gun at her and waive it in her face throughout the ordeal, he never acted in an aggressive manner.
According to reports, the men repeatedly ordered her to open the safe, saying that they wanted the guns that were stored inside. After approximately five minutes, she said a third man entered her bedroom. She said that his face was not covered. When they found that she was unable to open the safe, she said they fled with a crossbow, two cell phones, five beers from the refrigerator, and a pack of cigarettes.
The victim said that her husband, age fifty-eight, had been asleep on the couch throughout the ordeal, and that she feared that they had incapacitated him. When she checked on him, however, she found that he was still sleeping.
Deputies found that the trio had gained entry through a bathroom window, and apparently left through the front door. One of the beers was found on a table next to the front door and both cell phones and the cigarettes had been discarded in the front yard. The male resident reported that the men had also stolen his wallet that contained $300 cash.
Reports indicate that tire tracks were found at the edge of the driveway, but by the time deputies arrived there was no sign of the intruders.
Although the couple was shaken up, deputies report that neither was injured. Investigation into the crime is currently on-going.
