Police Investigate Three Weekend Crashes Involving Intoxicated Drivers
Lawrenceburg Now
Members of the Lawrenceburg Police Department investigated three separate crashes during the weekend involving intoxicated drivers.
Shortly before 5:30 Saturday morning officers were dispatched to the West Gaines Street/Walden Road intersection to investigate a single vehicle accident. The driver reported that a vehicle was coming toward him in his lane of travel and that he had swerved off of the roadway to avoid an impact. A witness who had been traveling behind the crash victim told officers that there were no other vehicles on the roadway at the time of the crash and that the driver had been speeding.
Officers report that the driver, eighteen year old James Ethan Wallace of 69 Bishop Road, had an odor of alcohol about him and failed to perform satisfactorily on field sobriety tests. He was also found to be in possession of a Knight .50 caliber muzzleloader. Wallace was arrested on charges of first offense DUI and being in possession of a firearm while intoxicated. He was incarcerated under a $2,000 bond and will answer the charge in General Sessions Court on January 7, 2016.
Just after 7:00 a.m. Sunday officers were dispatched to the scene of a two vehicle accident at the intersection of Remke Avenue and Hannon Drive. Driver Michelle Nicole Russell, 34, of 1103 Oakdale Avenue, told officers that she had been reaching down for a lighter when she crossed the center line and side-swiped another vehicle. She said that she had taken a prescription Xanax pill around 2 ½ hours before the wreck.
Russell failed field sobriety tests that were administered and was subsequently arrested on charges of second offense DUI, failure to exhibit due care, and failure to provide proof of insurance. She was incarcerated at the Lawrence County Detention Center under a $1,000 bond and will answer the charges in General Sessions Court on December 3, 2015.
Around 10:00 p.m. Sunday officers were called to the scene of a two car crash involving injuries near 553 Weakley Creek Road. While they were en route, officers were informed by dispatchers that the male driver, who was bleeding from his face, was fleeing from the scene on foot.
Officers arrived to find a 2001 Ford Taurus in the ditch. The driver side windshield was busted “from what appeared to be the driver’s head striking the windshield.” Officers searched the area, but were unable to locate the driver at that time. They were able to identify him as twenty-six year old Justin Lee Dollar of 90 Hahn Road.
Reports show that officers made contact with Dollar at around 11:30 p.m. at Whispering Oaks Apartments. He was reportedly bleeding from his nose and was experiencing pain in his chest.
