Arrest Made In Burglary, Arson Of Third Street Home
Lawrenceburg Now
Lawrenceburg Police officers arrested a man last week on burglary and arson charges after a Third Street resident reported that his home had been burglarized and a fire ignited inside.
Officers were dispatched to the home, located at 512 Third Street, where the resident reported that he had returned to find that his house was filled with smoke. Looking about, he discovered that the home had been ransacked. He further found that a fire had been set on the stove, but that it had burned itself out without spreading.
A neighbor told officers that she had spoken with a man who was at the home earlier in the day. She said that he told her he was new to the area and lived in a neighboring home. She gave officers a description of the man, pointing out that he had been drinking beer while speaking with her.
Officers approached the house he had indicated and report that a man matching the description began to walk toward them. The report said that he was “obviously intoxicated” and appeared to be very agitated. Once they spoke with the man and calmed him, they placed him under arrest for public intoxication. He was identified as twenty-four year old William Paul Allen of 112 Walnut Street, Lawrenceburg.
While inside the car, officers report that Allen again became agitated. He kicked out a window and was preparing to kick one of the officers when a taser was deployed. Officers indicate that Allen became compliant and no further force was needed.
Allen was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was jailed under charges of public intoxication and vandalism over $500. Arrest warrants were subsequently obtained in connection with the burglary and arson incident. Allen was additionally charged with aggravated burglary, vandalism and arson. He was incarcerated under a bond of $67,000.
Damages to the police car were estimated to be $1,000 while damages at the home totaled around $10,000.
Allen has been scheduled an initial appearance in General Sessions Court on December 3, 2015.
