Police officer demonstrates kindness while answering crime call
Lawrenceburg Now
While answering a crime call Sunday morning, a local police officer was able to locate the man accused of stealing items from a business, then demonstrated kindness in the midst of a difficult situation.
Lawrenceburg Police Officer Mickey Glover was dispatched on the theft call at Cash Saver on North Locust Avenue just after 9:30 a.m. Employees reported that a man had brought his grocery selections to the checkout lane and attempted to pay for them with his EBT card. When the clerk informed him that the card was invalid, the man took the bags and left without paying the $72.02 owed the business.
Glover was given a detailed description of the man’s car and learned the direction in which he was traveling. Subsequently, he was able to locate the vehicle, backed into a driveway at the rear of the man’s home on Third Street.
Reports show that when Glover confronted the man, he admitted that he had stolen the items. Glover escorted him back to the business then proceeded to pay for the man’s groceries.
Management of Cash Saver indicated that they do wish to pursue prosecution in the case. The man was issued a citation on a charge of shoplifting and will therefore be required to appear in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on January 4, 2018.
