Owners arrested after dead pets found inside Loretto home
Lawrenceburg Now
Loretto police headed up an operation Tuesday morning that resulted in the arrest of two residents after several dead pets were found inside their home.
Officials with the Loretto Police Department reported that they received assistance in the operation by the Lawrenceburg Animal Control Officer, District Attorney’s Investigator, and members of the Lawrenceburg Fire Department.
Officers received complaints indicating that some animals had been abandoned at a home on Horn Avenue. They conducted a welfare check at the property and made a grisly discovery.
Utilizing HAZMAT suits, officer entered the home and found that there were numerous cats and dogs living inside. They found that five of the dogs had died and that three more needed immediate medical care. Seven dogs and fifteen cats were removed from the home.
Both owners, identified as Matthew Blessing and Jessica Clark, were arrested and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where they were incarcerated under a bond of $51,000 apiece. Each is charged with five counts of felony aggravated cruelty to animals and one misdemeanor count of animal cruelty.
Loretto authorities report that, “The animals will be cared for and turned over to family members once proper living arrangements have been made.”
