Tuesday Crime Report
Lawrenceburg Now
Recovered property
Police officers were asked to investigate Sunday when a Johnson Street resident found two bicycles abandoned in the roadway, next to her mailbox. She said she had noticed her dogs barking and stepped out to check on them when she noticed the bikes.
Burglary
A ninety-three year old Gilbreath Drive resident filed a complaint with police officers on Friday, indicating that someone had stolen his Poulan Pro B6 leaf blower out of his shop building. He said there was no sign of forced entry and nothing else appeared to be missing. Loss was estimated to be $140.
Vehicle burglary
On Friday, officers spoke with a Kennedy Street man who reported that someone had removed the driver’s side rear glass on his 1996 GMC truck in an attempt to break into the vehicle. The window glass was found intact inside the truck, however the hinges were broken. Nothing appeared to be missing. The owner estimated damages to be $100.
Aggravated burglary
Fall River Road resident Timothy Hammond, age 40, was arrested Friday after he was found sleeping on the couch of an acquaintance who told officers he did not have permission to be inside her home. Officers found that the front door had been damaged, but that he denied having caused the damage. He was arrested on charges of aggravated burglary and vandalism. Damages were assessed at $100.
Aggravated burglary
Police officers responded to a Third Street home on Thursday where a woman cleaning out some items reported a burglary. She said she had been cleaning out items the resident had given her. She left for an hour and returned to find the front door had been forced open. She told officers that she had locked all of the windows and secured the deadbolt lock before leaving. She was unable at that time to determine whether anything was missing.
Theft
A Waynesboro resident reported to officers Thursday that she had left her purse after checking out at Goody’s on North Locust Avenue, and when she returned it was missing. Loss was estimated to be $726.
Theft
On Thursday, officers spoke with employees of Auto Credit on north Locust Avenue in Lawrenceburg. They reported that a man had stopped by the previous day to look at two GMC Yukons on the lot. When they arrived at the lot Thursday they discovered that both vehicles were missing the passenger side mirror covers. They checked the surveillance footage and report that the man had retuned during the night and stole the covers. They were valued at $75.
Vandalism
Deputies spoke with a Lawrenceburg woman on Wednesday who reported damage to a 2009 Chevrolet Aveo she had borrowed from a friend. She had left it parked at a market for 1 ½ hours and returned to find a long scratch on the passenger door, apparently from a sharp object. Damages were estimated at $500.
Vandalism
Sheriff’s deputies spoke with a Sutton Drive resident last week who reported that someone had come into her yard, grabbed a handful of rocks, and threw them at her house. She said that the action caused an estimated $1,600 in damage to the vinyl siding.
Attempted burglary
Deputies responded to a Weakley Creek Road home last week where the resident stated that someone had attempted to break into her daughter’s home. She said that she had taken her grandchildren home and noticed that her key would not work on the front door. She examined the lock and found that someone had broken something off inside. A front porch window was broken, and a deputy found that one window had no screen and was unlocked. He looked around inside, but said that it did not appear that the person had gained entry. Damages totaled around $390.
Attempted theft
A Lentz Road, Summertown resident reported to deputies that someone had attempted to break into his Dodge Charger and steal the wheels the previous night. Reports show that a cinder block had been moved beside the car and the center caps had been removed from the wheels and laid on the ground. He said the person responsible was unable to remove the wheels because it required a special security lug wrench. He told officers that a wire coat hanger was found beside the vehicle. It appeared that repeated attempts had been made to open the locked door with the hanger, which caused deep scratches and multiple dents to the pillars and doors. The action caused approximately $5,000 worth of damage.
