Suspect is identified in Walmart arson fire
Lawrenceburg Now
Authorities have identified the individual suspected of igniting a fire inside of Walmart Sunday evening.
Reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department show that officers were asked to investigate three separate incidents Sunday, all believed to involve the same suspect. The first incident involved an individual inside the store who was drinking rubbing alcohol. The second involved the same man taking a truck from the parking lot without the owner’s consent.
Around 6:00 p.m. emergency agencies were summoned to the store regarding an arson fire. Store officials reported that the same man had returned and used rubbing alcohol to start a fire while inside. When officers arrived on the scene, Lawrenceburg firefighters reported that the blaze had already been extinguished. Fire Investigator Shayne Adams confirmed that the fire had been intentionally set using rubbing alcohol.
After store security video had been reviewed and an investigation conducted, an arrest warrant was obtained charging twenty-six year old Cody Benjamin Cozart of 981 County Road 160, Lexington, Alabama with the crime of arson.
