Nominations Sought For Volunteer Stars Awards

Do you know someone who consistently gives their time to improve the lives of others?

You can nominate them now for the Annual Governor’s Volunteer Stars Awards, which will be presented at a ceremony in Franklin on February 28, 2016.

Youth and adult volunteers from each participating county are recognized. Last year’s event recognized Lawrence County’s Abigail Kidd, the face and spirit behind “Abigail’s Plan,” the effort to build a rubberized softball field and handicap-accessible playgrounds in Lawrence County. Adult volunteers Debbie Griffin and Debbie Hildenbrandt were recognized as founders of the support group Noah’s Ark Widow’s Ministry.

“We had three great representatives last year,” said County Coordinator Cathy Mashburn. “I know there are many other Lawrence Countians who deserve this very special recognition, so I hope everyone will nominate someone they know.”

A nomination form can be seen here and can also be picked up at any branch of First Farmers & Merchants Bank or the County Executive’s office on the second floor of the Administrative Center. Forms should be filled out and accompanied by a narrative that describes how the volunteer(s) serve and returned to any of the pickup points or mailed to Cathy Mashburn at 1501 North Locust Avenue, Lawrenceburg, by November 30.

Nominees will be judged based on the community’s need of the volunteer service performed, initiative taken to perform the service, creativity used to solve a community problem and impact of the volunteer service on the community.
