Bleeding man found on the ground is arrested for burglary
Lawrenceburg Now
A man found lying on the ground, bleeding outside of a Lawrenceburg residence last week was arrested for having burglarized the home.
The resident of the home on Third Avenue requested that Lawrenceburg Police officers be dispatched to the scene of a burglary. They arrived to find Columbia resident Nicky Joe Johns, age 36, lying on the carport bleeding from his head.
Officers quickly checked the home to ensure that no other intruders were inside, then spoke with the fifty-year-old victim. She stated that she knew Johns and that he had stayed at her home around two weeks prior, but had not been back since.
Officers discovered that entry to the home had been made by kicking in a side door. Part of the door frame was also found lying on the carport.
The resident walked through her home with officers to determine whether anything was missing. She pointed out a blue bag that was lying on the living room floor that did not belong to her. Inside of the bag officers found a yellow Dewalt box that contained approximately 4.5 grams of methamphetamine, several crushed and broken pills that were believed to be Xanax, digital scales, and several small plastic bags. Officers indicate that Johns claimed ownership of the items.
Reports indicate that a pair of Nike tennis shoes was found lying beside Johns, and that the tread pattern was a match to shoe prints found on the door. Johns told officers that the shoes belonged to him, as well. A glass pipe was also found lying at the southwest corner of the home.
Members of the Lawrence County Ambulance Service responded to the home. They rendered aid at the scene, then transported Johns to Southern Tennessee Regional Health Systems Lawrenceburg for further care. He was evaluated then returned to police custody.
Johns was booked through the Lawrence County Detention Center on charges that include aggravated burglary, vandalism, possession of Schedule IV narcotics, possession of meth for the purpose of resale, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was incarcerated under a bond of $115,000.
Johns has been scheduled an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on December 2, 2016.
