BOLO Leads To Arrest Of Intoxicated Driver And Passenger
Lawrenceburg Now
A Be On the Look Out alert issued due to a concerned motorist, allowed police officers to take an intoxicated driver and passenger into custody last week.
The motorist contacted Lawrence Central Dispatch shortly before 2:00 p.m. Friday to report an erratic driver eastbound on U.S. Highway 64 West. They reported that the driver had struck a guardrail, but continued driving.
When Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies located the white Chevrolet Blazer, they report that the driver was traveling off of, and then back onto, the roadway. Once deputies initiated a traffic stop, they report that it was some time before the driver actually came to a stop. They said that the driver continued driving for around half of a mile before pulling onto the shoulder of the roadway. They report that he travelled another quarter of a mile before coming to a full stop.
When they made contact with driver Mickey Don Looney, age 44, of 518 Third Street, Lawrenceburg, they report detecting a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. They report that the passenger, fifty-three year old Pamela Ann Jones, of the same address, exhibited signs of being intoxicated.
Jones told officers that the reason they had been driving erratically was that they were on their way to the hospital. Deputies noted, however, that she refused medical attention when Emergency Medical Service personnel arrived on the scene.
Reports show that Looney was placed under arrest when he failed to perform satisfactorily on field sobriety tests. Deputies found that Jones “was a danger to herself due to her stumbling around near the roadway.” She, too, was arrested. Both were transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center for incarceration.
Looney was booked under charges of driving under the influence of an intoxicant, while Jones was charged with public intoxication.
