Shoplifter Makes Off With Drink And Pastry
Lawrenceburg Now
After being alerted by a customer, a clerk at an Iron City market notified sheriff’s deputies that a woman had concealed two items on her person, then left without paying for them.
The clerk requested that Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies be dispatched to The Trading Post, 470 Iron City Road, Iron City. She said that a woman had come into the store earlier and ordered a bacon and cheese sandwich.
She told deputies that the woman paid for the sandwich and a bag of chips. Once the woman left the premises, another customer informed her that “she may need to look at the (security) video because the female was shoplifting.”
When the employee reviewed security recordings she found that the woman had concealed a twenty ounce Sundrop and a cinnamon roll in her purse. When she checked out, she only paid for the sandwich and chips.
An employee requested that the deputies return to the market a short time later, saying that the woman had returned. Deputies confronted her and she admitted to stealing the items, valued at $3. Deputies noted that prior to their arrival the woman had already offered to repay the clerks.
Store officials indicated they would not pursue charges as long as the woman paid for the merchandise and did not return. The woman agreed to pay them the money during the weekend, “because she did not have enough money to cover the two items.”
