Intoxicated Man Who Came To Turn Himself In Is Charged With Resisting Arrest
Lawrenceburg Now
A Summertown man who stopped by the Lawrence County Detention Center to surrender himself on an outstanding warrant last week ended up being charged with resisting arrest.
Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department show that twenty-two year old Alexander Reed Swafford of 14 Ball Park Road stopped by the detention center to surrender himself on a failure to appear warrant issued through Lewis County.
When they arrived, deputies report that Swafford was standing at the lobby window, shirtless, while “yelling and cussing.” As a deputy approached, he reports that Swafford attempted to hug him and told him that he was drunk.
Deputies noted that Swafford had a very strong odor of alcohol about him. When one of the deputies took him by the arm to escort him into the booking room, he said Swafford began to resist. Deputies placed him on the ground and attempted to handcuff him, however they report that he “wouldn’t comply by putting his hands behind his back.”
Once a corrections officer helped them handcuff Swafford, he was booked into the jail under the additional charges of public intoxication and resisting arrest.
