Boat Missing From Athens Dragged And Abandoned In Iron City

Lawrenceburg Now

A boat that had apparently gone missing from the Athens, Alabama area was dragged across the state line, into Iron City, then abandoned early Saturday.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were asked to investigate around 2:00 a.m. A resident of West First Street reported hearing a loud noise “like the boat had been dragged.” The witness looked out to find the boat sitting in the middle of the street.

Deputies found drag marks on the roadway and followed them all the way into Alabama on Ducktown Road. The registration numbers indicated that it was last registered to a man residing in Athens. They could find no indication that it had been reported stolen.

Deputies cleared the roadway by having the boat towed, pending further investigation.
