Local woman is target of identity theft

Lawrenceburg Now

A local woman spoke with police officers on Wednesday after discovering that she was a victim of identity theft.

The victim, age forty-five, filed a complaint with Lawrenceburg Police officers, reporting that someone had used her identity in order to obtain a Walmart credit card.

The victim said she had received a denial letter a few months before, regarding Walmart credit. Since she had not applied, she said she thought it was some kind of scam, so she ignored it and threw the letter away.

On Wednesday, she said she received a letter from the company, indicating that she had been approved for a credit card. She told officers that she had already contacted the bank and had them close the account. She said it was tagged with a fraud alert, as well.

The victim told officers that she was unsure who could have perpetrated the crime.
