Lawrenceburg man found to be in violation of Sex Offender Registry in three different ways
Lawrenceburg Now
A tip led authorities to discover that a Lawrenceburg man listed on the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Sex Offender Registry was in violation of the state law in three separate ways.
An anonymous tip was received by officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department on Tuesday, indicating that twenty-eight year old Nicholas Lee Daniels was not living at the address under which he was registered. State law requires that listed sex offenders quickly notify their reporting agency of any change in address. Acting on the tip, officers made their way to a home located at 213 Lawrence Street, where the tipster said Daniels was residing.
Officers report that they were unable to make contact with Daniels at that time, but that neighbors confirmed that he had been staying at the home. Officers were able to make contact by telephone shortly afterwards. They asked that Daniels come to the police department the following morning because there was a problem with his registry information.
Daniels arrived the following morning as promised and officers began going over his registry information with him. They asked whether he had been living at the McDowell Street address he had listed, or staying at the Lawrence Street home. Reports show that he initially denied the violation, saying that he resided on McDowell. After a short time he admitted that he had actually been living with his wife and her children on Lawrence Street.
Officers reminded Daniels that, since the children were not his own, he was prohibited from living with them. Also, they pointed out that the home was within close proximity of a daycare center, which is also prohibited.
Officers report that Daniels’ wife was combative when she learned that he would be arrested, at times making threatening statements. In addition, they noted that Daniels told them that “this would not be his last violation.”
Daniels was taken to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was booked under charges of violating the state Sex Offender Registry law. He was incarcerated under a $10,000 bond. He has been scheduled an initial appearance in General Sessions Court on November 3, 2016.
