Man is charged with violating Sex Offender Registry requirements

After being issued a citation on an unrelated charge, a local man now faces charges that he violated the state’s Sex Offender Registry law.

Reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department show that officers were notified Wednesday that a registered sex offender had been cited on the unrelated charges, leading other officers to determine that his filing information was not up-to-date.

They report that the citation led them to discover that the man, identified as forty-two year old Ricky Gene Burks, who is listed as homeless, no longer resides at his listed primary address. They also found that neither his phone number nor the numbers of next of kin were valid. Reports indicate the numbers had either been disconnected or changed.

Reports show that Burks had also failed to register in the month of September as he is required to do. He told officer that he did not register in September because, at that time, he had been in the process of moving out of state.

At the time reports were filed Burks had not yet been scheduled an appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court concerning the violations.
