Arrest made in theft from Red Cross
Lawrenceburg Now
A Lawrenceburg woman was arrested on Tuesday in connection with a theft that was reported from the American Red Cross building off of Prosser Road.
An officer with the Lawrenceburg Police Department was dispatched to the area after a Red Cross employee reported that a woman he was helping had snatched his cell phone, then fled from the building.
As he approached, the officer reports seeing a vehicle matching the description given, exiting from behind a nearby physician’s building on Prosser Road. The officer followed as the driver pulled across the highway, stopping behind Quick Stop #202. The officer was able to identify the driver as thirty-seven year old Toni Shera McKissack of 406 Prosser Road.
McKissack admitted to the officer that she had been at the Red Cross building, saying that she had been asking for “information on shingles that her mom had.” Reports show that the officer asked her about the cell phone and that she told him it “was in her truck.”
Reports show that another officer arrived on the scene and checked the dumpster behind the physicians building for the phone. Not finding it, he called the number and a pharmacist at nearby Holland’s Pharmacy answered. He told officers that McKissack had been in and had left the phone lying on the counter.
The Red Cross employee told officers that McKissack had been there, asking about assistance because she was about to lose her home. He said he went into the office to get phone numbers for her and that she reached across the desk, picked up his cell phone, and walked out the door.
McKissack was taken into custody and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center for processing. She was booked on charges of burglary and theft and incarcerated under a bond of $22,000. She is slated to answer the charges in General Sessions Court on December 8, 2017.
