Man who threw laundry basket into traffic is jailed on firearms, drug charges
Lawrenceburg Now
Drug and firearms charges were issued against a local man after law enforcement officials received complaints recently that he had thrown a basket full of clothing at passing vehicles.
The incident occurred in the 100 block of Prosser Road. Callers reported that the man was wearing shorts and was possibly intoxicated. Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department made contact with the subject, identified as twenty-three year old James Dylan Collier of 707 Fisher Alley, who denied any knowledge of a basket of clothes.
Officers noted that Collier was wearing an orange bandana and black gloves and that he appeared to be “very jumpy and nervous.”
Collier was unable to give officers a clear answer about why he was wearing the gloves and bandana, his previous whereabouts, where he was going, or why he was in that area at 1:30 a.m. He told officers that “his cousin had dropped him off” in the area.
Because several recent burglaries had been reported in that vicinity, officers requested that detectives be dispatched to take over the investigation. When they asked whether Collier had anything illegal on his person, they report that he handed over a cigarette pack that contained three bags of methamphetamine with a combined weight of 1.9 grams.
Officers searching the immediate area reported finding a loaded .38 caliber handgun beneath a tree approximately ten feet away from Collier. He denied that the gun belonged to him and told officers he had no idea why the gun was loaded and lying on the ground.
Collier was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was booked under charges of possession of Schedule II narcotics for the purpose of resale and possession of a firearm with the intention of going armed. He was incarcerated under a bond of $40,000 with an initial court date set for November 3, 2016.
