Man issued firearms charge, DUI after fleeing crash scene
Lawrenceburg Now
A local man garnered firearms and DUI charges recently after allegedly fleeing from the scene of an automobile crash.
Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department who were dispatched to investigate a crash at the intersection of East Gaines Street and International Drive were informed that three people had fled the scene on foot.
When they arrived, witnesses reported that two people had run into a wooded area off of International Drive. Officers began to search the area and were successful in locating the pair. The female subject was quickly transported to Southern Tennessee Regional Health System Lawrenceburg for treatment.
The second subject, identified as forty-three year old Rickey Ray Redd, Jr., of 1849 Buffalo Road, Lawrenceburg was detained by officers. They report that during an ensuing pat-down they discovered that Redd was concealing a .25 caliber Titan handgun in his left rear pocket.
They subsequently conducted a search of his vehicle and report finding a .40 caliber Glock 22 in the driver side floorboard. Officers noted that the weapon was loaded with seven rounds in the magazine and that two boxes of .40 caliber ammunition were concealed in the trunk.
Officers noted in their report that Redd had an odor of alcohol about his person and exhibited signs of being intoxicated. He reportedly admitted that he had consumed alcohol, but refused to submit to field sobriety and blood tests. Because Redd had been convicted of DUI in 2008, officers were able to obtain a search warrant allowing them to obtain a blood sample, despite his objection.
Redd was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was booked under charges that include being a felon in possession of a firearm, second offense DUI, driving on a revoked license, violation of the implied consent law, and leaving the scene of an accident.
Redd is scheduled to answer the charges in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on December 2, 2016.
