Police Pull Alongside Fleeing Shoplifter
Lawrenceburg Now
Police officers surprised a shoplifter during the weekend when they pulled alongside him while he was fleeing with a shopping cart full of merchandise.
Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department were summoned by loss prevention personnel Saturday who reported that a shoplifter was about to leave the store with stolen merchandise. While en route officers were notified that the man had fled through the front door.
When they pulled into the parking lot officers spotted the man and pulled alongside him to confront him. Loss prevention personnel were able to identify the man as the shoplifter. In addition to the merchandise contained in the cart, officers report that they could see that the man’s front and rear pockets were bulging “with different items that appeared to come from Walmart.”
As a result of the investigation, Richard Allen Cowley, age 42, of 2209 Waynesboro Highway was issued a citation, charging him with theft of property under $500. Cowley will be required to answer the charge in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on November 5, 2015.
