Deputies investigate several burglaries
Lawrenceburg Now
Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department have been tasked with investigating several burglaries in the past week.
One of the burglaries was reported by the owner of a Richardson Road property who resides in Nashville. He told deputies that he had come to his cabin and discovered that someone had cut the pad locks off of both his cabin and shed.
He said several items were missing from inside his cabin including a TV, air compressor, wire, a Gibson guitar, banjo, and his brother’s Purple Heart medal. The victim checked the shed and reported that three saddles and three mule collars were missing. Altogether, he estimated his loss at $3,770.
The victim informed deputies that while checking his property he had noticed that the back door of his neighbor’s home was standing open and that the lock on his shed had been cut off, as well. He said the owner resides in Florida.
The deputy found that the rear door was ajar and quickly secured the residence. Inside, he noted that drawers had been rummaged through and clothing was lying about the floor. Reports indicate that the initial victim was going to obtain contact information for the second victim. At the time the report was filed loss had not yet been determined at the second property.
Approximately three hours later, deputies were called to a Mockerson Road, Leoma property where a Lawrenceburg man reported around $870 worth of loss and damage at his shop building. Reports indicate someone had cut through the metal siding on the rear of the building in order to gain entry.
The reporting officer noted that the metal “had been pealed back just enough for a person to get through.” The victim reported that portions of the barbed wire fence that secures the property had been cut, as well.
Tools were reportedly stolen, including a sledgehammer, BlackHawk ratchet set, crescent wrenches, mixed set of sockets, miscellaneous ratchets, and a three drawer Craftsman toolbox.
The following morning deputies were called to Saint Joseph by a Bluff Drive couple who reported a theft from their home. The female resident told deputies that a man had knocked on their door and asked to speak with the male resident.
She said she went to the bedroom to get him and when she returned the man had entered their home. She said he began “asking if she had any drugs.” She said she told him she did not and that he needed to leave.
The male resident told deputies that the man did leave, but that he had apparently stolen a cell phone before doing so. The male resident was able to provide deputies with the man’s name, but said he believed the man to be homeless.
At the present time all of the crimes remain under investigation through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone who has information that would assist in the investigations is urged to contact the department at 931-762-3626.
