Security camera alerts victim to vehicle burglary

Lawrenceburg Now

A local man reported to police officers Friday that his security system had alerted him to the fact that his vehicle was being burglarized.

The victim spoke with Lawrenceburg Police officers shortly after 5:00 a.m. He reported that he had been away, returning to his home shortly before. He said he was inside of his bedroom when he looked at his security system and saw that someone was rummaging about inside of his 2002 GMC Envoy.

Reports show that the victim ran outside to confront the burglar, but that he fled. He pursued him for a short time, but was unable to catch him.

When he checked his vehicle, the victim realized that some items were missing, including two cell phones and a Ravens Arms MP25, .25 caliber semi-automatic, pistol. He estimated his loss to be $1,275.

Officers answered a second call to Whipporwill Drive later in the day when a resident found that someone had stolen his Sears Craftsman socket set out of his 1998 Ford Tauru. He said the car had been parked outside of his home.

The victim told officers that the rear door panel was damaged during the commission of the crime, which reportedly occurred sometime between 4:00 and 6:00 a.m. Loss in the second case was estimated to be $75.
