Pair who posed as firemen to scam Amish arrested

Two men authorities say posed as firemen in order to scam money from members of the Amish community have been arrested.

Officials with Ethridge Fire Department reported to Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies in July that they had received inquiries about fundraising activities, but that no such activities had been undertaken through the department at that time.

Deputies spoke with several victims who reported being approached by two young men who claimed to represent Ethridge Fire Department, asking for donations. The men reportedly told them that they could not accept checks, only cash. Incidents were reported by residents residing on Convent Road, Jap Lane, and South Brace Road.

The victims were able to provide deputies with a detailed description of both men along with the vehicle in which they were traveling.

Fire department officials reported Saturday that two men had been arrested in connection with the cases. They identified the men as Andrew Atkisson and Brandon Jett, indicating that they had been arrested by members of the sheriff’s department. At this point investigation into the crimes is still continuing.
