Suspects Identified In Shoplifting Incidents
Lawrenceburg Now
Law enforcement officials have identified suspects in connection with some recent shoplifting incidents at Lawrenceburg businesses, and are continuing to investigate the cases.
Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department answered a call to Freds at 2016 North Locust Avenue on Thursday where an employee reported that a couple had been shoplifting items, then returning them in an attempt to obtain cash.
Reports show that during a period of a few days a female suspect had picked up merchandise inside the store, placed it into her purse, then left without paying for it. Afterwards, her male accomplice brought the items back, seeking refunds.
The employee told officers that she had become suspicious about the couple’s activities and on Thursday she had noticed the man had two shovels lying on the ground beside his vehicle. She said she knew the items had not been paid for.
She was able to obtain a license plate number and description of the man and the vehicle, allowing officers to identify a suspect. Security personnel are reviewing surveillance video to put together a list of stolen merchandise. Charges are pending.
Officers report that they checked with the adjacent Dollar General Store and a manger said that a couple matching the description given had taken items from that business, as well. She estimated that around ten, twelve-packs of drinks were missing from a sidewalk rack outside the front door. That business will also review security footage.
Security personnel at Walmart on North Locust Avenue also filed a complaint regarding shoplifting last week. They reported that a man had been in possession of a universal security key allowing him to remove security devices from merchandise. The man had reportedly shoplifted a Garmin GPS device valued at $119.
The suspect, thirty-five year old Daniel Adam Keen of 90 Shotwell Road, was found to be in possession of a razor blade when detained. He was subsequently charged with shoplifting, with an initial General Sessions Court appearance set for October 26, 2015.
