Authorities asked to open investigation into worthless check allegation
Lawrenceburg Now
On Thursday officials with a Lawrenceburg business asked authorities to open an investigation into an instance where a worthless check was passed by a Florida man.
An employee of Ricky B’s Fast Cash, 401 West Gaines Street, reported that the check had been passed at the business on February 13 of last year. Since that time, she said they have made extraordinary efforts to contact the man and recoup their loss.
The suspect, a resident of Panama City, Florida, had cashed what appeared to be a legitimate payroll check made out to the man from “Reed Construction Company of Bay Minette, Alabama.” The check was for the amount of $3,000.
Shortly after they accepted the check, the employee said that they learned that it was not legitimate. She said that they made repeated attempts to contact the man by phone, but all of their efforts were unsuccessful. The employee said that she had eventually made a trip to Panama City, Florida and confronted him at his home. She said that she had been able to speak with the man, and that he told her he “would have to try to get some money together.”
The employee told officers that a considerable amount of time has elapsed since the man promised to make arrangements to repay the money, but that he has made no effort to follow through.
The case currently remains under investigation through the police department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
