Man is arrested after assaulting mother
Lawrenceburg Now
A Lawrenceburg man was arrested on Wednesday after he allegedly assaulted his mother while arguing about a car.
According to reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department officers were dispatched to a Paradise Street home just before 6:30 p.m. on a report that a male was vandalizing the residence. When they arrived the suspect, forty-four year old Jimmy Delowell Kennedy of 408 Geri Street, was in the yard. He told them that he had “just been upset because the keys were locked inside a vehicle parked in the yard.”
Inside the residence, officers spoke with the sixty-three year old victim. She told them that her son became upset when he could not find the keys to her car. She said that he threw her to the ground and placed his knee at her throat, then struck her in the face several times. He grabbed her glasses at one point and crushed them. She told officers that Kennedy had also obtained a knife from the kitchen and made threats to kill her. In addition, he had reportedly threatened to “cut the convertible top off of the car to gain entry.”
The victim told officers that her son had never acted in this manner before and that she feared he was “on some kind of drugs.”
Officers noted that the victim had a busted lip and a scratch on her right arm. She told officers that she was experiencing pain in her left ear, as well. Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene however the victim refused transport to a hospital at that time.
Kennedy was arrested on one count of aggravated domestic assault. He was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was incarcerated under a bond of $40,000.
Kennedy is scheduled to answer the charge in General Sessions Court on October 6, 2016.
