Verdict In Child Rape Case
Press release
On August 1, 2014 investigators with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department presented evidence to the Lawrence County Grand Jury after an almost two year investigation.
The result of this investigation was the indictment and arrest of William Douglas Farr, 69, of 1 Yocum Lane, St. Joseph, TN. Farr was arrested on Friday, August 1, 2014 on two counts of rape of a child.
Investigators with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, Department of Children’s Services, A Kid’s Place, and the District Attorney’s office all worked in cooperation to bring this case together.
Evidence was gathered during the course of the investigation which developed Farr as a suspect and as the investigation continued it became clear Farr was the perpetrator of these heinous crimes.
After a two day jury trial Farr was found guilty of Rape of Child and is facing a minimum of twenty five years in the state penitentiary. A sentencing hearing for Farr is scheduled for November 9, 2015.
The conclusion of this case is another example of cooperation between all agencies involved, but most importantly it is the result of the victim’s courage; the courage to come forward, the courage to share their reality and the courage to make sure this does not happen to anyone else at the hands of William Douglas Farr.
The trial was held on Monday, Sept. 21 and Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015. Prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Christi Thompson and Gary Howell.
