Man Assaults Girlfriend Just Hours After Release From Jail

Just a few hours after being released from the local jail, a Lawrenceburg man was re-incarcerated last week after he allegedly assaulted his wife.

Authorities report that thirty-two year old Raymond Matthew Vazquez was taken into police custody at around 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at his West Taylor Street home.

Lawrence Central Dispatch informed responding officers that witnesses had reported a male subject assaulting a female. Callers said that he had her in a choke hold, dragging her down the street.

When they spoke with the twenty-six year old victim, Lawrenceburg police officers report that she was very upset. She told them that she and her husband had been engaged in a verbal confrontation earlier. She said that the situation turned physical after he began to accuse her of “partying, using drugs, and cheating on him while he was incarcerated at the Lawrence County Jail.” She told officers that he had only been released from custody a few hours prior.

The victim reported that while Vazquez was in the shower she had taken clothing for her and her children and hid them behind the house. She said that when she took her children, ages 8 and 9, out of the front door to leave, Vazquez began to chase after her and started pulling her back by the pony tail, then by the head. She said that she handed her kids her phone and told them to call for help. Once she had freed herself, she said she sat on the back steps to wait for help.

Vazquez was placed under arrest on a charge of domestic assault and transported back to the detention center where he was incarcerated under a $1,000 bond. He has been assigned an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on November 9, 2015.
