Bicyclist arrested after swerving across roadway
Lawrenceburg Now
Police reports show that a local man was arrested on public intoxication charges during the weekend after he swerved across a roadway while riding a bicycle.
An officer with the Lawrenceburg Police Department reports that he had been traveling in the 300 block of Johnson Street around 8:00 p.m. Saturday when he noticed the cyclist swerve across the road. He said that he approached the rider, twenty-seven year old Jimmy Ray Chambers, and detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. In addition, he reports that Chambers had a can of beer in his back pocket.
The officer reports that he asked Chambers, a resident of 314 Tipton Street, to complete a series of field sobriety tests, but that he was unable to perform them adequately. He was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was booked on one count of public intoxication.
Chambers is scheduled to answer the charge in General Sessions Court on October 6, 2016.
